Workfront ETL

Features | The Problem | Preview

Thinking about backing up or having a copy of your Workfront data for historical, trend analysis or auditing purposes or just for disaster recovery setup purposes?

Aurotech’s Workfront ETL does exactly that. It takes data out of your Workfront instance and houses a copy within your organization’s database. The database can be any relational database like Oracle, MySQL, MS SQL or a custom database like Teradata. Once exported, the Workfront data can be made available to other systems in your organizations for trend analysis, detailed reporting, etc.

The setup is straightforward, gives you the ability to define parameters like frequency, type of load, etc. and takes only 30-45 minutes to setup and then product is ready to use.

The objects that can be copied are Portfolios, Programs, Projects, Tasks, Issues, Users, Hours, Assignments, Baselines and Baseline Tasks and all available details including custom data fields for each of these objects is copied into your database.

Integration Features

  • Select the objects you wish to extract
  • Preference control over complete extraction or incremental
  • Populate a data warehouse or supplement a larger universe of data to include Workfront details
  • Easier to read data as it uses documented terminology from Workfront’s API explorer to name tables and columns
  • Once extracted, build additional integrations to peripheral systems that need Workfront data

The Problem

The Solution

There are just some reports you are never going to be able to generate through the Workfront reporting utilities.Whether it is looking at trends from data extracted through multiple extracts over time, or reorganizing data that is too far disconnected per the Workfront report builder, or creating a more comprehensive data universe by combining Workfront data with data from other systems; you now have access to your raw data to design your reports using any number of analytics tools (Tableau, Crystal, Cognos, OBIEE, etc.) — many of these tools even support rendering the finished report in Workfront through an external page to create a dynamic yet consistent reporting experience.
Workfront doesn’t store historical data (e.g., If the data in a field was changed from X to Y, it records that it was changed but doesn’t store the old value anywhere; making it difficult to see historical data).Take a copy of your data on a daily/frequency of your choice using Aurotech’s Workfront ETL tool and use any business intelligence and analytics platform to how data has changed over time.
If an object is deleted from Workfront, it becomes very expensive and time consuming job to recover it.The objects that can be copied are Portfolios, Programs, Projects, Tasks, Issues, Users, Hours, Assignments, Baselines and Baseline Tasks and all available details including custom data fields for each of these objects is copied into your database.

Data from Workfront goes into a database using the API field names as the column names.
